To Parents/Students/SES Staff/Community Stakeholders:
The link between nutrition and learning is well documented. Healthy eating patterns are essential for students to achieve their full academic potential, full physical and mental growth, and lifelong health and well-being. Healthy eating is demonstrably linked to reduced mortality and the development of many chronic diseases as adults. Schools have a responsibility to help students and staff establish and maintain lifelong, healthy eating patterns. Well-planned and well-implemented school nutrition programs have been shown to positively influence student’s eating habits.
Along with offering free, nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) to our students through the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, Salome Elementary School promotes nutrition education and physical education as outlined in our local wellness policy.
It is the responsibility of our school to review and update our local wellness policy based on feedback from students, parents, staff members, administration, and community members.
Salome Elementary School invites you to review our current local wellness policy located on our Food Services page. Submit your comments or suggestions via the school website or the school’s communication Hub PBIS regarding ways to continue providing a healthy environment for all of our students.
Sincerely,
Regina Friedle
Food Service Director
